\nThis week I’m joining in MFRW’s Book Hooks. I’ve decided to highlight The Marquesa’s Necklace, the first book in the Oak Grove Mysteries.This is from the scene where the reader is introduced to Detective Thomason.<\/p>\n

\n Thankfully, it was only moments until Detective Thomason appeared. I
\ngave him the once over\u2014brown hair still cut short\u2014check. Glasses
\nhiding those dark brown eyes\u2014check. His shirt rumpled and in need
\nof an iron\u2014check. No wedding band in his finger\u2014check. Yep,
\nnothing had changed.<\/div>\n
\nAs I stood, his eyes wandered from my face down to my shoes. The
\ncorners of his lips curled upward, but I wouldn\u2019t say that he
\nsmiled. A smile would have looked odd on his normally grim face.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cIf you would come with me, please?\u201d he said.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\nHe even put the please in there, unlike our previous encounters. Of
\ncourse, those times, I had been either in booking or in one of the
\ninterrogation chambers. I know, I know, they\u2019re interview rooms.
\nWhatever. I followed him through a maze of desks and hallways and
\ninto a small but comfortable office, my heels clicking on the tile
\nfloor. I\u2019d never noticed before what a nice behind he had. I
\nwondered if it was just the pants he was wearing, or if I\u2019d just
\nnot looked before, having other things on my mind. Like calling a
\nlawyer.<\/div>\n
